XM Satellite Radio and Samsung MP3 Audio Player
XM Satellite Radio and Samsung introduced an impressive line of three new portable audio models that combine the content and capabilities of XM and a high quality MP3 player for the ultimate digital music experience.
The Samsung XM players offer the full capabilities of satellite radio and MP3 music, the two most popular forms of digital audio entertainment introduced over the past 20 years. Consumers finally have a converged solution that offers XM Satellite Radio's 160 channels of commercial-free music and premier sports, news, and talk radio, and the ability to store and play their MP3 collection, all on one portable Samsung device.
The leading product in the Samsung XM product line is the Samsung Helix XM2go player. The Samsung Helix is a major breakthrough in consumer electronics, offering live XM reception for portable listening, and it stores MP3s, WMA files, and XM content for playback anywhere, anytime. Plus, Helix has a revolutionary feature that lets the user "bookmark" songs heard on XM for online purchase from the XM + Napster service.
"For the first time ever, you can listen to live satellite radio and play MP3s on a single, wearable device," said Hugh Panero, President and CEO of XM Satellite Radio. "XM's partnership with Samsung will deliver a portfolio of portable audio products that will fundamentally change the way people listen to music. You can play all of your favorite songs in your MP3 collection, and you can listen to live XM Satellite Radio, which introduces you to new artists and old favorites from all kinds of music genres, plus live sports, breaking news, stand-up comedy, and much, much more."
"Samsung works diligently to identify opportunities in aligning our brand with reputable and exciting content providers," said D.J Oh, President and CEO of SEA. "In an effort to offer products that enrich the digital audio experience, Samsung is thrilled about taking the next step with XM Satellite Radio and introducing a portable audio product that revolutionizes the way listeners will experience their satellite radio programs and MP3 music portably moving forward."
The Samsung Helix (MSRP: $399.99) will be available in the first quarter of 2006.
In addition to Helix, Samsung and XM will offer a portable line of XMP3 digital audio players that receive live XM Radio reception when connected to a home docking station or car dock. The Samsung NEXUS players can store XM content, MP3s, and WMAs for portable listening. The Samsung NEXUS 25 player (MSRP: $199.99) stores up to 25 hours of XM programming, and the Samsung NEXUS 50 (MSRP: $249.99) stores up to 50 hours of XM content. Both will be available in the first quarter of 2006.
