Nokia 6630 Imaging Smartphone global GCF 3G WDCMA Certification
Nokia announced that the Nokia 6630 imaging smartphone has as the first device in the world achieved global GCF 3G WDCMA Certification. The certification was achieved based on the requirements defined by Global Certification Forum (GCF), an independent industry body, which provides network compliancy requirements and testing for GSM/WCDMA mobile devices. The WCDMA 3G Certification Programme was officially launched by GCF on February 8, 2005.
"The Nokia 6630 imaging smartphone is the first WCDMA device in the world to fulfill GCF's WDCMA 3G requirements. We regard this as a major achievement in the advent of 3G mass commercialization," said Juha Putkiranta, Senior Vice President, Multimedia and Imaging, Nokia.
"Nokia considers the industry common testing criteria, such as GCF, to have an utmost importance in ensuring interoperability between devices and networks that are based on open standards. A common process will result in products that can be smoothly and quickly taken into service by operators and mobile consumers throughout the world," he continued.
GCF is an industry forum for collaboration between network operators and terminal manufacturers. It provides an independent testing program and criteria to ensure interoperability between 2G and 3G mobile devices and networks. The leading network operators and handset vendors globally support the GCF certification process. To meet the GCF requirements, strong quality processes must be in place throughout the development and testing process. Nokia is strongly committed to supporting GCF compliancy with its mobile devices, and since the introduction of the GCF certification process in 2000, Nokia has been the leading handset vendor to GCF certify its products.
