| New AMD 1.1GHz Athlon 4 Mobile ProcessorAMD marked the second anniversary of the award-winning AMD Athlon processor by announcing that its new 1.1GHz mobile AMD Athlon 4 processor, featuring AMD PowerNow! technology, will be used by Compaq in its best-selling home and small office notebook, the Compaq Presario 1200 series.Since the introduction two years ago of the AMD Athlon processor, AMD's unit market share for x86 processors has risen from 12.6 percent in the third quarter of 1999 to more than 22 percent in the second quarter of 2001, according to Mercury Research. AMD, traditionally strong in the retail market, has also experienced significant x86 processor market share gains in the small and medium business, government and education markets. According to Dataquest's latest unit share figures, AMD desktop processors commanded 37 percent of the North American small business market, as well as 32 percent of government and 21 percent of education markets in the first quarter of 2001.
