AMD Athlon Processor Supporting Double Data Rate Memory Will Power New COMPAQ Presario 700
SUNNYVALE, AMD today announced that Compaq Computer Corporation (NYSE:CPQ) is now offering the Presario 7000Z, model 7QS, a 1.2GHz AMD Athlon processor-based platform that uses the innovative AMD-760 chipset that supports DDR (Double Data Rate) memory technology. DDR memory allows a PC to take full advantage of the proven performance of the AMD Athlon processor by increasing peak data throughput.
"This system allows people to experience the next generation of memory technology," said Pat Moorhead, Vice President of Marketing at AMD's Computation Products Group. "With the addition of DDR memory, an AMD Athlon processor-based system can provide faster graphics and a better overall computing experience that brings the Internet to life. This system has twice the data-moving power, and a purchaser can find that he or she can get things done faster than ever before. We're pleased that Compaq has chosen to offer this exceptional platform."
"With the powerful combination of AMD Athlon processing and DDR memory technology, the Presario 7000Z is designed to satisfy the needs of even the most demanding users who require outstanding system performance for gaming, digital video editing, streaming audio and video, and graphics applications," said Mark Vena, Director of Compaq's CTO Desktop Product Marketing.
DDR memory is an evolutionary new technology that can double a PC's available memory data transfer rate while remaining comparable in cost to its predecessor, Synchronous Dynamic Random Access Memory (SDRAM). AMD supported DDR technology with the launch of its AMD-760™ chipset last October.
The Compaq Presario 7000Z will also be available with a 1.1GHz and 1GHz AMD Athlon processor and with a 266MHz or 200MHz front-side bus.
