Sony first notebooks with a 16.1 screen
Continuing the Sony tradition of first-to-market innovations, the company’s latest VAIOs are the world’s first notebooks with a 16.1" screen, which also claims the highest resolution (1600 x 1200 UXGA) amongst today’s portable PCs. So, users not only see more, they also see it all as clearly as possible. What’s more, the GRX316SP and GRX316MP each feature a Mobile Intel® Pentium® 4 processor-M and top-grade hardware and software, ensuring that many corporate and professional users regard these models as the ultimate mobile office solution. Such flexibility is encouraged by the following connectivity options: a 10Base-T/100Base-TX Ethernet port for networking; a TV-out port; a MagicGate Memory Stick(TM) slot suitable for exchanging data of all types; an internal 56k software modem for data and fax communication over PSTN networks; and a high-speed i.LINK (IEEE1394) port for interacting with the VAIO World of digital audio and video entertainment. Enjoyment of this new universe is enhanced by the presence of a combined CD-RW/DVD-ROM drive and built-in stereo speakers, in addition to Sony’s special pre-loaded software and the supplied high-end video editing tools from Adobe® These applications are easily controlled via the centrally-positioned Jog Dial, which can also be programmed to scroll screens, change volume and so on. The GRX300 Series is fully supported by the integrated multimedia components of Microsoft’s XP Pro, which also offers a stable operating environment.
Hardware highlights
While both models feature a fast and powerful Mobile Intel® Pentium® 4 processor-M with Enhanced SpeedStep(TM) Technology - geared especially for the Notebook market – as well as a generous hard drive and memory, the specifics differ. The GRX316SP boasts a 1.70 GHz-M chip, 512 MB RAM and 40 GB HDD and the GRX316MP has a 1.60 GHz-M processor, 256 MB RAM (expandable to 512 MB) and 30 GB hard drive. The high-resolution screens of the GRX300 Series can be enjoyed to the full thanks to an ATI MOBILITY (TM) RADEON (TM) 7500 graphics card, with 16 MB integrated – plus 16 MB external – DDR SDRAM, that delivers excellent 3D images.
