Western Digital fastest external hard drive 200 GB FireWire external hard drive

Western Digital announced the largest and fastest external hard drive currently available in the market, its new 200 GB FireWire external hard drive. Combining lightning fast 7,200 RPM spin speed and high performance FireWire interface with massive storage capacity, WD's FireWire external hard drives outperform external hard drives spinning only at 5,400 RPM.

"The 7,200 RPM spin speed of WD's FireWire products translates to faster access times and higher performance than that of 5,400 RPM spin technology featured in competing products," said Richard E. Rutledge, vice president of marketing for Western Digital. "Our new FireWire external hard drives give users the capacity they need and the high performance they desire."

Western Digital's 200 GB capacity FireWire external hard drives provide a fast, easy way to add storage for the large amounts of data generated by digital video editing, digital camcorders, digital cameras, scanners and digital music collections. Additionally, FireWire external drives are a convenient solution for backing up an internal hard drive on one drive rather than multiple CDs or other removable media.

Western Digital's FireWire external hard drives provide additional hot-swap storage that can be easily disconnected from the computer and locked up for security, or shared from computer to computer. The hard drives are compatible with any Macintosh or PC computer with a FireWire-enabled OHCI compliant port, using either Windows 98 SE/Me/2000/XP or Mac OS 9.x or later operating systems. All Western Digital FireWire products carry a one-year warranty.

Widespread availability of WD's 200 GB FireWire external hard drives is expected this month. Estimated street retail price for WD's 200 GB FireWire external hard drive is $399.
