AMD Athlon 64 processor integrated into HP Media Center PC m1160n Photosmart PC
AMD announced that the AMD Athlon 64 processor has been integrated into the new HP Media Center PC m1160n Photosmart PC, featuring Microsoft Windows XP Media Center Edition 2005. AMD Athlon 64 processor-based systems are an ideal choice for Media Center PCs, providing improved technology for games, movies, and streaming audio and video.
“As the industry moves to 64-bit computing with AMD Athlon 64 processors, the most power-hungry consumers will be able to experience jaw-dropping performance with their favorite multimedia and entertainment applications,” said Marty Seyer, corporate vice president and general manager, Microprocessor Business Unit, Computation Products Group, AMD. “AMD64 technology enables extraordinary multimedia performance that brings the same blazing speed of 64-bit computing used by the top movie, music and gaming industry artists and producers to consumers in the home.”
From the upcoming Star Wars: Episode III Revenge of the Sith, to the recording of Eric Clapton’s Crossroads Guitar Festival, to supporting the development of Atari’s Shadow Ops: Red Mercury PC game, AMD64 technology is spearheading a revolution in the way movies, music and games are being created. With media center PCs, the same AMD64 technology enables a master-quality playback experience that the artist originally intended for their audience – all in the privacy of the home.
AMD Athlon 64 processors offer consumers substantial end-user technology benefits that raise the bar in digital entertainment in the home. AMD Athlon 64 processors are the first and only 32- and 64-bit desktop and mobile processors designed with Enhanced Virus Protection (EVP) capabilities. When enabled by Windows XP Service Pack 2 or Windows XP Media Center Edition 2005, EVP offers an additional level of integrated security to home PCs that are often continuously connected to the Internet.* AMD Athlon 64 processors also provide innovative system-level features including Cool’n’Quiet technology. An advancement in PC technology, Cool’n’Quiet offers efficient performance-on-demand, allowing an “always on” PC to run quietly in any room.
“HP continues to drive innovation with the way people think about and interact with their PCs,” said Sam Szteinbaum, vice president, Consumer Computing – North America, HP. “The HP Media Center PC m1160n, powered by the AMD Athlon 64 processor, offers cutting-edge digital entertainment and powerful tools to create and enjoy digital media in the comfort of the home – from music to home movies to photo slide shows – with a few clicks on the remote control.”
The performance and features of the AMD Athlon 64 processor, in conjunction with the HP Media Center PC running Windows XP Media Center Edition 2005, represents the next leap forward in the digital home, driving the convergence of entertainment and home computing. HP announced the media center today at Microsoft’s Digital Entertainment Anywhere Launch.
With Windows XP Media Center 2005-based PCs, consumers get the best version of Windows ever for the home, offering the full capabilities of Windows XP with exciting new experiences for music, digital photography, movies, and television.
“Microsoft worked closely with AMD to take digital entertainment to the next level in the home,” said Kevin Unangst, director of Windows consumer marketing for Microsoft Corp. “The outstanding performance of the AMD Athlon 64 processor combined with Windows XP Media Center Edition 2005 means consumers can experience more of the photos, music, television, movies and games they want.”
Availability and Pricing The HP Media Center PC m1160n Photosmart PC with the AMD Athlon 64 processor 3400+ has an estimated U.S. street price of $999 after rebate and is expected to be featured on hpshopping.com and in Circuit City, CompUSA, MicroCenter and Office Depot starting October 17, 2004.
