Matsushita Nokia to Collaborate on Seamless Interoperability Mobile Terminals and Home Ele
Matsushita and Nokia today announced their agreement of cooperation for exchanging data and content between mobile terminals and home electronics devices.
The collaboration intends to bridge various technologies and provide interconnectivity that will enable new services. These services will include, for example, remote viewing via a mobile terminal, connecting AV (Audio Visual) equipment with mobile phones and the use of a mobile device for remote control of home electronics devices.
The companies will focus on a number of key technologies and specifications designed to enhance interconnection of devices, transfer of content and application interoperability. The collaboration covers technical areas such as MMS (Multimedia Messaging Service), which enables the exchange and viewing of images, audio, video and text in mobile terminals and in future home electronics devices.
In order to facilitate seamless application interoperability between the home and mobile domains, the companies will also work together to create common APIs (Application Programming Interfaces) of the Java(TM) technology for mobile terminals and consumer electronics devices. Device connection interface technologies for direct data exchange among mobile terminals and consumer electronics devices are also in the agenda of the cooperation.

Consumers will be able to enjoy new kinds of content and services by utilizing mobile phones together with, for example, Video/DVD recorders, TV's and other AV equipment, as well as network cameras etc. We believe that interoperable devices will be greatly appreciated by consumers," says Yoshiaki Kushiki, Managing Director in charge of multimedia and software technologies, Matsushita Electric Industrial Co., Ltd.

Our common goal is to offer consumers tangible and user-friendly services and new ways to leverage their mobile devices. This target can be achieved by implementing open interfaces and by developing ubiquitous peer-to-peer solutions, " said Pertti Korhonen, Executive Vice President, Nokia Mobile Software.
The companies intend to open the outcome of this cooperation to mobile communication and consumer electronics industries. Matsushita and Nokia will promote interoperability for connecting home environment and the mobile domain in a seamless manner over different networks.
