Panasonic debuts four new portable cd players

Panasonic introduces four new portable stereos: the RX-D12, RX-D13, RXD15 and RX-EX1. These affordable models feature such amenities as acoustic separator cabinets, multi-function CD players and digital tuners with 24-station presets. "Exceptional sound quality does not have to be expensive," says Reid Sullivan, assistant general manager for Panasonic's Portable Audio Division. "These compact models have high-quality features at an affordable price."

The Acoustic Separator Cabinet allows exceptionally clean sound quality. This enhancement places speakers in a separate compartment, keeping them away from the unit's operating mechanisms and each other. The result: Minimized cross-speaker interference and virtually no distortion from the other electronic components in the unit. Bass Reflex Ports are also provided for a bigger bass sound.

Adding to the bass performance is Panasonic's XBS Extra Bass System that ensures rich, low frequencies without affecting the high end. XBS level is adjustable so the effect can be tailored to suit individual tastes. The 4-inch speakers' free-edge design results in outstanding bass response. Additionally, model RX-D15 includes a center speaker for superb center vocalization.

Harmonic Enhancer, featured in models RX-D15 and RX-EX1, corrects the phase shift of high-and mid-range frequencies for crisp, clear vocals and true sound reproduction.

The Digital Synthesizer Tuner provides auto tuning and memory for up to 24-stations while allowing virtually drift-free AM/FM reception. An LCD display allows for easy-to-read multi-function display and models RX-D15 and RX-EX1 include a larger backlit LCD display for easy use.

All models feature CD players and single cassette decks while model RX-EX1 has a motorized CD and slot-in cassette trays. The CD players use MASH* 1-bit digital-to-analog converters, so listeners are assured of faithful CD sound. Options include 24-track random access programming, skip, search and repeat (track or disc) as well as fast-forward and rewind. Other cassette features shared by all models include a soft tape eject system and full auto-stop pause control.

Models RX-D13, RXD-15, RX-EX1 feature a wireless remote control, which controls all major CD functions as well as volume. In addition to a strong musical performance, models RX-D12, RX-D15, and RX-EX1, will enhance any room with aggressive, high-tech styling highlighted by an eye-catching silver cabinet. Model RX-D13 is available in silver with blue, grey or red accents.

All models operate on 6 "D" batteries (not included) or with an included AC adapter.
