Panasonic World's smallest Ultra-Compact e-wear SD Audio Player 50 hours MP3 playback time
Reflecting the rising popularity and potential of the SD Memory Card format, Panasonic introduces its second-generation e-wear SD audio player. New model SV-SD80 joins a growing list of SD-enabled products from Panasonic and other companies, and continues the new fashion trend Panasonic sparked with the launch of its innovative e-wear line of tiny, wearable, MP3 music players last year.
The new SV-SD80 e-wear unit is the industry's smallest1 portable digital audio player that uses removable media. Despite its new smaller size, Panasonic's SV-SD80 player has tremendous stamina, providing up to 50 hours of uninterrupted play (using the rechargeable Ni-MH battery and one AAA alkaline battery.) An included 64MB SD Memory Card holds up to 64 minutes of near CD-quality music in High Quality mode (129 minutes in Extended Play mode).
About the size of a postage stamp, the SD Memory Card is a revolutionary removable storage medium that is transforming the world of consumer electronics. Offering super portability, high-speed data transmission and huge storage capacity, the SD Memory Card enables consumers to put their favorite music, video, digital photos and other data onto a tiny card and take their digital files virtually anywhere.
"Panasonic e-wear portable audio players have enjoyed immense popularity since their introduction last year," said James Kiczek, National Marketing Manager, Panasonic Entertainment Group. "They've already become the hippest new fashion accessory. The new SV-SD80 not only offers great sound and super portability, but now also offers consumers longer playing time."
The wearable player makes a striking statement with its silver casing and a vivid blue, two-line, 10-character LCD display. It can be worn either around the neck using the included lanyard, or on the arm or wrist via the adjustable, snug-fitting armband.
Consumers can enjoy a range of music entertainment, thanks to the SV-SD80's multiple built-in decoders. In addition to MP3 playback capability, the SV-SD80 supports WMA (Windows Media Audio) and AAC (Advanced Audio Coding) encoded music.
The SV-SD80 includes the new Panasonic SD audio PC recording kit, consisting of an enhanced version of Real Network's popular RealJukebox software2 and a USB reader/writer that connects to a PC's USB port.3 With this included software, users can record (rip) their favorite songs from their personal audio CDs or download content from the Internet. Once the music has been transferred to the SD Memory card, users simply pop the card into the player to enjoy great sounding, skip-free music wherever they go.
The SV-SD80 features play/stop, skip/search, volume up-down, play mode and hold/mode/normal switch. Other highlights include random play and repeat play. With a quick glance at the player's bright LCD display, users can easily gain status information such as track title, artist name, album title and elapsed time. As the player doesn't contain any moving parts, the music will play flawlessly without skipping a beat. Using a long-lasting, rechargeable Ni-MH battery and one AAA alkaline battery, the SV-SD80 can deliver up to 50 hours of uninterrupted play on a single charge.
The player comes with a durable, water resistant case which can be worn in a variety of ways (belt clip, arm band, etc.), in-the-ear headphones and an extra headphone extension cord; hard, protective carrying case; a neck strap; adjustable armband; a 64MB SD Memory Card; PC software on CD ROM; USB reader/writer; rechargeable Ni-MH battery and battery charger. The new SV-SD80 has a suggested retail price of $329.95* ($299.95* suggested minimum price.)
Panasonic markets 8MB, 16MB, 32MB and 64MB SD Memory Cards, and has announced plans to develop higher capacity 256MB and 512MB cards soon to take full advantage of the SD Memory Card's expandable storage capacity and interoperability. Panasonic also markets SD-compatible digital still cameras, digital camcorders, car stereos and video projectors, in addition to its e-wear portable audio players.
Bolstered by growing consumer acceptance and broad industry support, the SD Memory Card is fast becoming a global standard. The SD Association (www.sdcard.org) continues to gain membership. The SD Association represents a diverse range of industries, including entertainment providers and marketers and manufacturers of personal computers, consumer electronics, telecommunications, photographic equipment, and automobiles. The Association reports a rise in companies licensing SD Memory Card technology, as well as increasing availability of a large variety of SD-enabled products, from printers to cell phones to personal digital assistants (PDAs).
